Land Cruiser is one of the most expensive Toyota’s models. However, outside the US, the price is more affordable. Besides that, other markets also offer a downsized model based on the J150 platform – Prado crossover SUV. The next edition is already out. However, that is not the production model, but the prototype of the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
Test mules are on streets and buyers all around the globe can soon expect the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to appear. However, one of the highlights of Land Cruiser is its diversity depending on markets. The same is happening with Prado model, so buyers in India, Australia, China, Japan, and Europe will see significant differences between vehicles with the same nameplate.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Specs
Again, depending on the market, the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will use different kinds of power sources. Somewhere that will be diesel, somewhere petrol. Some countries could get the option to choose. But, at this moment we don’t know what is in Toyota’s plans. The only certain thing is that carmaker is not adding any new engine. Well, we must be more precise – the only addition could be a hybrid drivetrain.
Standard offer in some countries includes one of the following powertrains. A 2.7-liter petrol unit is the weakest one. It can produce 165 horsepower and 250 Nm (185) of torque. Its advantage is a better fuel consumption. Automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard for this drivetrain.
More power comes from a 3.5-liter unit. Unfortunately, this one is available only for Chinese consumers. This one delivers significantly more power – 280 hp and 365 Nm (270 pound-feet) of a twist. The powertrain remains exclusively offered in China only.
The most powerful unit was launched in 2015. It is a 4.0-liter V6. The similar drivetrain is a source of power for Toyota 4Runner. It can create 240 hp and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. However, this is an alternative in all markets where it appears and the price of 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado that carries this motor is the highest.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Diesel
Toyota is not disappointing fans of diesel engines. If there are three petrol units, the carmaker adds three more diesel drivetrains. Again, the situation is the same as for the gasoline mills – availability depends on markets. However, there are no many options for 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Diesel – the carmaker has either 2.8-liter or 3.0-liter unit.
The first one is turbo engine with outputs of 175 hp and 450 Nm (330 lb-ft). A six-speed auto transmission is a standard couple for all vehicles besides LC Prado. The other option is a 3.0-liter powertrain with two different setups. The first one is a 5LE version with 105 hp and 200 Nm (145 lb-ft). The other one comes with a turbocharger to maximize the outputs to 170 hp and 350 Nm, or 260 pound-feet of twisting power.
There are some rumors about the big Land Cruiser being a hybrid with the arrival of 300 Series. The same could happen to its smaller sibling. The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado hybrid would use one of the existing petrol engines. It is probably a 3.5-liter unit, currently available only in China. The company uses a similar engine for its only hybrid SUV Toyota Highlander.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado USA Release Date
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is not coming to the USA. Also, fans in Canada will find this model as the rebadged SUV – Lexus GX. Furthermore, there are rumors about GX coming as a hybrid, so we will monitor the situation in this segment since these two vehicles could carry a very similar system. Besides the US, the 2020 Land Cruiser Prado is not going to be available in Mexico and South Korea.
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is keeping the same wheelbase and shell. That means the SUV is going to be 4,760 mm long (187 inches) long. That is 190 mm shorter than the Toyota Land Cruiser sold in the United States. Length of wheelbase is 110 inches, or 2790 mm. Standard LC adds 60 mm. Width and height are also shorter than on the full-size model.
How Much Is Toyota Land Cruiser Prado?
Australian customers can find this vehicle for 55,000 AUD. The price is similar for the base SUV in other countries, including Japan and China. Converted to US dollars, it is around $40,000. Upper trims depend on options and trim levels, which are again different depending on regions.
